It has been 30 anniversary after the original Toy Story movie debuted, establishing the animation giant as a leading film company and bringing audiences to beloved figures like the cowboy doll (the actor) and Buzz Lightyear (Tim Allen), who are now famous worldwide.

Coming in 2026, the fifth installment is scheduled for release. The initial preview for Toy Story 5 landed this week, offering a glimpse into the storyline but keeping fans wondering how it will address the conclusion of Toy Story 4.

Bonnie's New Toy: A Frog-Shaped Tablet Frightens the Gang

In the teaser shows Bonnie — who inherited Andy's toys when he grew up — receiving a latest toy, one that terrifies the familiar toy group. Bonnie gets her initial digital gadget, and she is excited about it.

Presumably, the amphibian-inspired device will come to life just like Bonnie's other toys. However, the toys appear to consider it as a danger intending to supplant them, which it likely will.

Woody's Return: Unanswered Questions from Toy Story 4

An element the teaser doesn't touch on is why the sheriff is returned with his companions in Bonnie's room. The finale of Toy Story 4 depicted him embark on a new adventure with Bo Peep (the actress), journeying with a carnival and helping prize toys find good homes.

Surely, the filmmakers will explain the aftermath of Toy Story 4 in the movie. Seeing him show up in Bonnie's room without warning is somewhat puzzling, however. It also makes us wonder whether Bo Peep will have returned with Woody. And where is the stuntman toy (the star)?

Continuity from the Last Installment

At the very least, some elements are carrying over from the prior film. The final act the cowboy did before setting off for his fresh path was hand over his sheriff badge to Jessie (the voice actor), entrusting her in charge of Bonnie's bedroom. The clip displays the badge pinned to her shirt.

It is hoped she is remains the key figure among the group.

Toy Story 5 debuts on June 19, 2026.
